Biography

Dr. Roberto is Consultant Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon at Al Jalila Children’s and an established paediatric cardiac surgeon from Italy. He started his medical career by training in some of the top hospitals in the world – Mayo Clinic and Boston Children’s Hospital. His medical career in nothing less than remarkable as he spent 24 years working and researching Paediatric Cardiology, and held a director position in three different world class medical centers in the USA (Newark, New Jersey), Italy (Rome) and Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), respectively.


He dedicated most of his career to offer a chance to unfortunate children born with a congenital cardiac anomaly. His professional expertise ranges across the entire spectrum of cardiac repairs, including heart and/or lung transplantations. In particular, over the years he has focused mostly in the management of complex cardiac anomalies in the neonatal age, including transposition of the great arteries, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, truncus arteriosus, etc.


Dr. Roberto is also very much involved in research activities with over 130 indexed publications and several book chapters. A member of the most relevant international cardiac surgical societies, he also contributes to the Editorial Boards of three scientific journals and, recently, has been appointed Associate Editor of a major European cardiovascular surgery journal (Interactive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Journal). He is a strong believer in team work and in sharing knowledge, constantly aiming at excellent treatment and loving care to children with congenital heart anomalies.
