Paediatric Emergency Medicine
Dr. Imran Asad is a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency
Medicine at Al Jalila Children’s in addition to being a point-of-care ultrasound
physician. Dr. Imran received dual training in paediatric emergency medicine from
both the United Kingdom and Canada with advanced fellowship in point-of-care ultrasound
(POCUS).
After having completed his paediatric residency and paediatric
emergency medicine training in the UK, Dr. Imran started out as the pediatric
emergency consultant and lead at the University Hospital in UK. He helped to
develop the first paediatric emergency department providing the presence of a
Consultant seven days a week.
Having developed a special interest in healthcare management,
Dr. Imran completed an Executive MBA in Healthcare Management from Plymouth
University, UK. While working as a paediatric emergency medicine physician in
the UK, he also developed a passion for point-of-care ultrasound which encouraged
him to go to The Hospital for Sick Children, Canada, where he completed a fellowship
in pediatric emergency medicine. He also completed a fellowship in point-of-care-ultrasound
programme at Sickkids. He is one of the few physicians in the region who has
received formal fellowship training in point-of-care ultrasound in paediatric
emergency.
Dr. Imran’s research interest lies in integration of point
of care ultrasound in clinical practice specifically in low resource settings
and has actively organizing educational talks and POCUS workshops to improve
global child health. He has published in peer reviewed journals including some
recent publications in the field of POCUS.
Dr. Imran is currently working on a research project of
teaching point-of-care lung ultrasound to novice users for diagnosis of
pneumonia in low resource settings and developing a training programme for
diagnosis of intussusception by point-of-care ultrasound.
