Paediatric Hand and Microsurgeon
Dr Carla is a Consultant Paediatric Hand Surgeon and Reconstructive Microsurgeon within the Plastic Surgery Department at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital. Born and raised in Italy, Dr. Carla graduated with honour from the University of Verona (Italy) Medical School and obtained her Board qualification in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery. Determined to refine her skills and to follow her genuine passion for Hand and Upper Limb Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery, she was successfully accredited an extensive and advanced international training, completing Fellowships in World renowned Centres for Pediatric Hand surgery and Reconstructive microsurgery in Paris and the United States of America (Institut de la Main, Clinc Jouvenet Paris; Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery Louisville, KY U.S.A.; Congenital and pediatric upper extremity fellowship Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children Dallas, TX U.S.A.) Dr.Carla has cross-specialty background in Orthopaedic, Hand and Plastic Surgery along with more than 18 years of Consultant experience as Paediatric Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgeon, have led her to have a broader perspective on several pediatric upper and lower limb congenital, post-traumatic and oncologic conditions requiring complex decision-making and care.
Dr. Carla joined Al Jalila Children’s from Birmingham (UK) where she was Consultant Paediatric Hand Surgeon within the Plastic Surgery Department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Prior to this appointment Dr. Carla was a Consultant Surgeon in the Plastic Surgery Department in Florence (Italy) for more than 10 years during which she was also responsible for the Paediatric Hand surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery Service at “MEYER Paediatric Hospital” in Florence ITALY. Dr. Carla is the author of book chapters and maintains an academic interest with regular scientific publications in peer reviewed journals. She is frequently invited as speaker at national and international conferences. She is a reviewer of the “Journal of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery” a peer well recognized Plastic Surgery journal.
Dr. Carla’s area of specialist interest is in complex congenital upper limb and foot anomalies and rare syndromes affecting the upper limb; limb functional reconstruction, including bone reconstruction, after cancer or tumour surgery; hand fractures and complex upper and lower limb post traumatic reconstruction; complex reconstruction surgery for burns and scars; peripheral nerve surgery and tendon transfer surgery.
