Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children from 2 to 7 years old with behavioural problems. The programme helps parents through live coaching to promote and facilitate healthy interaction between parents and children. PCIT is conducted through “coaching” sessions during parent and child are in a playroom while the therapist is in an observation room watching them interact through a one-way mirror and/or live video feed.

The programme is designed for families of children with disruptive behaviours, attention – hyperactivity problems and attachment problems. These children are often described as defiant, un controllable, overactive, attention –seeking and/or extremely impulsive. PCIT teaches parents through play on how to improve discipline techniques and at the same time enhances the quality of the parent-child relationship. Families participate in weekly session for approximately 15 weekly sessions, based on their mastery of skills and modification in their children’s behaviors.
