The Paediatric Metabolic Clinic at Al Jalila Children’s provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for infants, children and adolescents who have diseases that involve metabolism. It aims to make children with metabolic problems as healthy as they can be, treating each person as an individual and working in partnership with families to provide the best possible care.
Metabolism refers to the chemical reactions a body goes through twenty-four hours a day to turn food into energy for the body. Inherited metabolic disorders caused by missing enzymes affect their metabolism or occurs when these chemical reactions are disrupted by an enzyme deficiency.
Often, children will need a comprehensive evaluation to diagnose a disorder, which may or may not require a targeted treatment. We have the necessary paediatric expertise to diagnose and treat problems ranging from relatively mild to potentially life-threatening disorders.
