The Kidney Centre at Al Jalila Children’s is one of the most sophisticated paediatric facilities in UAE for the treatment of children with kidney disease. The Kidney Centre offers competent diagnostic procedures and treatment for the entire range of acute and chronic renal function disorders in children, with resources that can help children and their families adjust to the social and emotional impact of renal diseases to their lives as wells as lessen the burden of treatment on them.

One of our special focuses is the treatment of children with chronic kidney failure – Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an emerging non-communicable disease worldwide, also in Arab countries with a high prevalence of CKD risk factors, eg diabetes, obesity and hypertension. Paediatric nephrology services are ranging from diagnostic tests, treatment with medication to kidney replacement treatment consisting of dialysis and, ultimately, kidney transplant. The Centre will admit patients for a dialysis programme and in the initial stages the transplantation programme will be conducted in collaboration with an international affiliate, whilst the preparatory, post-operative, and follow-up care will be provided at Al Jalila Children’s.

The acute treatment unit will perform in-hospital dialyses, including extracorporeal dialysis procedures and peritoneal dialysis procedures. Our team offers all of the latest methods of dialysis, including haemodialysis for new-borns with metabolic diseases, plasmapheresis, hemofiltration, immune adsorption. At Al Jalila Children’s patients with chronic kidney disease have the benefit of our collaborative approach and comprehensive interdisciplinary cooperation between our various specialist teams, including paediatricians, specialised nurses, psychologists, dieticians and social workers, supporting patients and their families in close coordination with physicians from the urology, paediatric radiology, paediatric surgery, developmental neurology, paediatric gastroenterology, rheumatology, neurosciences, and paediatric mental health departments.
