Cochlear Implant Mapping

Hearing through a Cochlear implant is only attained when an Audiologist activates the system by connecting the speech processor to a computer loaded with specialized software which is followed by mapping sessions.

‘Mapping’ refers to the process of tuning and programming the parameters of the cochlear implant to the specifications and needs to create a comfortable setting. This enables children to have a positive attitude toward wearing the device and experience a wider range of sounds at its optimal level. Children fitted with cochlear implants should be seen regularly at scheduled intervals to re-program the cochlear implant processor throughout.
